Jesse Jones - She Shall Return

In response to global reproductive rights.

For her editioned scarf, She Shall Return, Jesse Jones takes the figure of the Sheela Na Gig as a matriarchal icon from pre-Christian Ireland, and turns it into a portal through which reproductive rights return to us. Traditionally marking the threshold to a sacred space, this multitude summons the return of the Chloran Sheela Na Gig from the British Museum. The portal acts as a symbolic matrix to the eternal sexual power of women, and offers us a potent symbol of resistance and renewal.
